Music Review : MTV UNPLUGGED (A.R RAHMAN)

Rahman begins the episode with “YE JO DES HAI TERA”. A goosebumps right at the start with shehnais.Ranjit barot contrusts and deconstructs the song with Rahmans flow is awesome. He sings this with a complete aplomb. The chorus "mitti ki hai jo khushboo" is spectacular. He adds his upto the perfect tamil lyrics which showcase his soalce than hindi lyrics. The song is of 5 minutes and 14 seconds of pure hair – raising stuff. Special credit to the shehnai players – Omkar dhumal, Raju dhumal, Sunil dhumal, Sanjeev shankar and Ashwani shankar.

Remember the piano loop behind the scenes of MTV UNPLUGGED prior to the release? "REHNA TU" starts off with that addictive music by Harmeet Manseta. The song boons a new tune and lyrics followed by a splendid piece of alaap. And then he starts with "Rehna Tu". The chorus here had to be nothing but perfect and it just does what was indeed needed. The song gets over just when your reach your dream world and drifts you in heaven, just then the song is over. I wish that to be abit more prolonging magic of music. Nevertheless, this one was superlative, as long as it lasted. Special credits to Lady Ann Marie Simpson for an inducing viloen and the chorus.

"PHIR SE UDD CHALA" Rahman on the piano and some fabulous guitars by Keba Jeremiah, what else you can ask for with this combo? It was total KILLER. Arun H.K, you own this one man. An absolute unique and better then the original too. Every note is bang on, modification bang on and for that super smiling face throughout is a double bang on. The violin played in the end is more than just expected and have done a complete justice to the whole piece. Special credits to Ranjit Barot, Keba Jeremiah and the chorus.







Jane Do Na from Cheeni Kum


A love ballad that comes with fusion of Western orchestra and Indian melody with rendition based on classical mood, 'Jaane Do Na' is solo track for Shreya Ghoshal. The song belongs to the mood of the 60s and the 70s where a girl playfully fought with her lover to let her go back home.

Shreya Ghoshal, the mellifluously pristine “nightingale” amalgams her chirpy vocal dexterity with Big B’s hilariously tinge in another verbal combat of words in impressive "Jane Do Na". This romantically cheerful tête-à-tête is filled with tattling sentimentalism where the heartfelt expressions come in juvenile admirations. Skillfully synchronized vocals paced with tunefully harmonized orchestration .  It’s a situational soundtrack where the beloved wants to breaks loose and the sentiments are well enamored with jittering and tattling paced rhythmic beat patterns. Illaiyaraja’s musical work is apt to cater the situation.

Duaa from Shanghai

Duaa has one of the most beautiful beginnings to a song I have heard in a long time. Such a lovely mix of western flavored tones with the Indian layers added in…pure gorgeousness. One of my favorite singers Nandini Srikar comes in and the song gets even better. You feel every note she sings and that is what is so special about her voice, the emotion and the tone is just pitch perfect. Then we have Arijit Singh, who is marvelous and matches her in feeling and tone. You feel every note with him as well. There is also this haunting cry in the background that really adds to the feeling and mood. This is just one exquisite song and one of my favorites that Vishal and Shekhar have ever composed. I could listen to this over and over and over and I did. This one has been added on to ‘my all time favorite song’ lists. The only thing bad was at the end they added this weird electronic tone. Her vocals were more than enough, instead of adding coolness it took some of the beauty away and that is never a good thing. But overall the song is just the definition of a great song!

Aaj Jane ki Zidd na karo

Shankar Tucker is an American clarinetist and music composer. He rose to fame with the popularity of his online music series called "The ShrutiBox". The Shrutibox, features his fusion compositions and was released online on media sharing platforms like YouTube and Soundcloud. The songs in The ShrutiBox are a fusion of Indian classical music and jazz. Most songs are a re-recordings of popular Indian songs. Shankar himself has played most instruments in the songs.

Talking about this song "Aaj Jane ki zidd na karo" is an interpretation of the classic ghazal by Fayyaz Hashmi features Rohini Ravada on vocals and Shankar Tucker on keyboards, clarinet, and tabla.It captures the strings of heart in the essence and magic of classical music.Its one of those renditions that really touches a chord somewhere within you and leaves you speechless but happy..! Enjoy :)

Who Are You When m Not Looking

The song is a ballad in which the narrator wants to know the characteristics of his lover's hiding from him. It is an emotion in which anyone who has been in love will certainly relate to.  Jim Malec of American Twang gave the song a thumbs-up review, calling it an "intimate rumination on the mystery of a beautiful, graceful woman. It mixes humor and pathos with a sweet melody and a wry attitude.

A very honest and grounded song written by Earl Bud Lee and John Wayne Wiggins. Its from the album "All about tonight". One of the top list of U.S. Billboard. Must listen alone or with the loved one. :)

Love Flames up with mesmerizing words of this song. It must be sooo sooo amazing to live by these words. For the one who gives me that spark.

Saigal Blues 

This is a very weired song..i cant really define is it romantic or funny..but best to listen on a situation when you are full on frustrated on your work, love life and rest of the things in life.
The music is super dragging and the song is sung choking his actual voice and through his nose. Jus typical to the very very old song. It tickles the butterflies in my stomach :D
